‘But ask the animals, and they will instruct you; ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Or speak to the earth, and it will instruct you; let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.’ (Job 12:7-10 HCSB)Good morning, DearHeart. Three years ago our Bryan was on a summer internship in Alaska. It was a curious time of loss for all of us. Nothing can compare one for losing a parent, and we had just lost Dale’s dad a few days before Bryan left. We also lost a lifestyle where every daily plan included planning for Poppy, too. We were empty and totally spent. Dale, Dani, and I put Bry on a plane to the Alaskan wilderness where he would have stretches of weeks with zero contact outside of his work crew. Every heart unsettled. Every territory was new. But, God … God heightened our growing season that summer through nature … Isn’t the Most High amazing(?!), to have given the gift of weaving hearts together with nature, no matter the space between us and the wild? In loss and in change emotions can get radical – tempers high, and edgy guards up … even in those places … especially in those places, God Most High makes trails into uncommonly peaceful spaces. I’m listening to my rowdy morning bird tree, just off my front porch – God’s wild nature is all around. I remember noticing it for the first time during the summer Bry was gone. I noticed every creature that summer in a new light … birds, squirrels, coyotes, fish, deer – they are just beyond. They carry an instinct that makes them fully aware, fully all-knowing of our presence. They stand with us, completely grounded, feet on the earth with their Spirit linked into the Holy One. Nature plays with our sense of wonderment, doesn’t it? In its giant-ness, if we get still enough to notice, we spin down into its vast rivers of peace like DNA spirals reaching deep within until we combust with the Creator’s glory like Roman candles. The Lord God Almighty, -always providing,-delivering balance in the extreme,-He filled my soul then, He fills my soul now. I’ve never heard nature the same way since. He provided the peace I needed in a way I could hear Him. Still does. From some seasons and some losses, we never fully recover, we simply learn to rely fully on our Maker. He restores my soul. Wake up. Hear His balance. Restore. Go.
