May 30, 2018 thy will be done

Standard

Good morning, DearHeart.

My brother sends me this prayer often:

“Your will, Lord.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Nothing else.”

It’s a gentle reminder when my over-active anxiety-ridden fear trigger gets pulled (which can, and does, happen thousands of times per day given the right circumstances!).

Thy will be done.

Yeah. My will serves me well with the parts of life in which I feel I can create and control. But, when I no longer know what to pray for, the unanswerable things, the lurking bigger things, the mysterious things … well, there’s a bigger, more mysterious Will and work in the world that we may never fully understand this side of eternity. That doesn’t mean we can’t trust God Most High, trust His ways, and surrender. In reality – His ways are far superior – who am I to think that my pea-brain knows enough to worry, for pete’s sake?! Worry pre-supposes that I have enough big-picture, long-term-effect knowledge of a deal that is way beyond my brain’s circuit board. I’m not saying “don’t worry” – there’s no stopping that – we are hard-wired to do so and it’s a crazy world out there. Anything can and will happen across a lifetime … and, usually does. Worry takes us in to the realm of anxiety which just makes things worse for us and for the people we love. However, surrendering to “Thy will be done”, is a vote of confidence … that whatever comes, God will grant the capacity find to find strength in the storm.

Grace.

Unending grace.

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Matthew 6:10 HCSB

Wake up.

Surrender. Thy will be done.

Go.
