“And you, your lives must be totally obedient to GOD, our personal God, following the life path He has cleared, alert and attentive to everything He has made plain this day.”
1 Kings 8:59-61 MSG
Good morning, DevotedOne.
My dad’s folks were collectors. On one of their flea market whims they took a liking to clocks. Pop Coon gave me their cuckoo clock when I was about 12, and I proudly hung it in my bedroom. It drove the rest of my family NUTS – but I loved that thing.
You know, it is true … you really can’t please everybody.
Until you recognize that
and accept that, then you will remain stuck.
Guess what, not even God pleases everybody. (Whaaaat?!)
Think about it. . .
was everyone on earth overjoyed to
share the lake,
or the fish,
or a drink of water,
or a meal with Jesus?
So, it is foolish – if God can’t even do that, to hope that you and I can do that.
But, here is the gamechanger: God said “this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”
Jesus knew who he was.
His father told him.
His Father has told you and me the same thing.
Here’s the deal. If you don’t know who you are, then you will hear criticism and cave into it because you want to be liked by everyone. So if they want you to do something, you will follow just to be liked. You will cave into the wrong kind of competition … and think just because somebody else is running 100 mph then you must run 100 mph, but you are not built to run 100 mph like them.
And, if you are not careful … then you will wear yourself out and fall short of the goal.
But when you understand:
this is me,
I am God’s,
this is my lane,
this is my goal,
then the competition field becomes a field of one. You.
You can encourage a thousand people, and I can encourage only four.
In order to have peace with that, and not get trapped in ‘comparison complex’ that spins you around and keeps you tangled up in your shorts, you must:
-release the pressure-.
You do that by identifying Who you are aiming to please.
I’m not doing this for you. I am doing it for my God,
my Creator,
the One who loves me.
I will always fall short in your book.
But as long as I am following Him with everything in me, then I will always be right on target.
Wake up.
Define your field.
Stop the comparison.
Go.
