“Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum, praise him with fiddles and mandolin. Let every living, breathing creature praise GOD! Hallelujah!” Psalm 150:5-6 MSG
Hello, DearHeart,
I wonder if the reason we humans adore the sound of drums might be because the sound echoes our own heartbeat? Drumming sounds transport us, have you noticed? Growing up in southwest Oklahoma, the drumming of our Native American families has accompanied my background. A constant. It is simply, unexplainably, there. A hum to daily life. The Holy Spirit in us rises to the surface at the drawing power of the beat. Drums tend to capture our heart and take us on a journey whether we nod to go along, or not. And, if the heart gets taken, we are solid gone – we can live with only one kidney, or lung, or part of the brain … but, take the heartbeat and the life is radically and instantly altered forever.
Our Creator set gifts in place for you and me at every trace. He uses every means, including tones in music, in voices, in the sound of wind through a tree, or a keyboard to change the dance of your day. He sets escape routes to be accessed and altered by sounds. When there is a beat, we know He has called an army of His holy hosts to unwrap and awaken layers in you and me.
I cannot know what will be sung up, drummed up in you today. You can be assured that what calls your heart to hear Him will be refined very specifically for you. And, if you slow to take notice, it will be arresting.
Wake up.
Hear His drumming.
Go.
