“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22 ESV
Good morning, Sojourner,
Almost every day we drive by white crosses at the side of the road. They’ve been there for years, marking the resting place of three lives. Right there, on that spot, their journey in life came to an abrupt halt, and their lives and the lives of many others were altered forever.
Last weekend, I asked a group to make a timeline of their lives. I asked them to list, year by year by year, their most significant events. By doing so, other dreams, emotions, and decisions going on around each during that time will surface as well.
Try it. It will take some time.
Notice how God is so faithful – the thread you trace is a powerful reminder that He can be trusted to carry you through to His next place of victory for you.
There will be places you need to mark with a white cross, places of profound tragedies you need to lay down – roads not taken, paths cut off, ambushes, deaths. There will be places that need to be mourned, and places you will write “forgiven” over that you have already released.
Your Creator places meaning on each memory. Ask Him to guide you through what needs to be forgotten, what needs to be laid to rest.
Be gentle with yourself, the dark times have been necessary love-notes. They have lent transforming powers. There is a lot to be said for pinning things to the earth so they don’t follow us around. Laying bitterness to rest creates the opening where thankfulness polishes and glides you and me into Arms of unshakable peace.
His arms await.
Wake up.
Timeline it.
Go.
