September 28, 2015 believing

“So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke‬ ‭11:9-10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Hello, PrayerWarrior,

Has your prayer-life ever undergone a make-over? I just realized that mine has. It has taken on such a different form over the years as I have allowed the Holy to ever-increasingly be my designer.

Here’s the tweak … I hardly ever pray “for” something to happen/not happen. I ask and keep asking as if God’s will has, or as if it is in the process happening already.

As I release more and more of the uncontrollables in my life over to God Most High, He has engaged every sense in me to communicate with Him, trust His ways, allow His timing.

Our Creator set we humans apart from all other life forms. He gave us special powers, “super-powers” of:

and emotion

in addition to physical smell, sight, taste, and touch.

Instead of just asking “for” something we have the capacity to design in our mind what it “feels” like when the event will occur.

God allows me to feel it when I ask, and move straight into giving thanks and being filled with gratefulness for what He, the Master Designer, has planned and is delivering. By giving Him thanks, I am honoring all opportunities He is sending from which He and I can choose.

Try it. Instead of going in all whipped and needy, ask while entering His presence in full gratitude of what He is already accomplishing – trusting His control and guidance.

You have history with Him, right? He already knew you were going to be asking and so He started working the plan long before you even knew you’d have the need anyway. He hasn’t let us down yet. You can trust Him here, too. Feel Him in your bones. Go for it!

Wake up.

Enter with gratitude.

September 25, 2015 deep water

‘He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.’   Isaiah 9:6b HCSB

Good morn, PeacefulHeart,

Do you know what thrills me to no end about God’s children? Their deep-lake peace.

Let me explain. No one in human skin is exempt from drama. Surface drama. Excitement, disappointment, chaos, and every emotion known to man. The outer edges of our daily behavior is based on the “deal” going on today in our life … our ‘mindset of the moment’. Whatever happens there, on the fringe, is like the surface of a lake – sometimes dead calm, sometimes windy and rough. Cycles and seasons and egos and drama come and go and influence the surface. Those who have given their hearts to Christ find that deep down – the lake is undisturbed. Peaceful even. No matter the white-caps, the Creator has your resting place ready and available and accessible.

As a child of the living God, you are the whole lake – in touch with the depth of the Prince of Peace, which remains absolutely still. We abide in His unchanging, timeless, deathless presence. Our surface fluctuates – plays, experiences, creates and dabbles in continuous drama … God gets that, He lived in skin for a while on earth, too. But, the only requirement you and I have as His children is to attach ourselves to His navigation through the waters to our eternity. Mm. Yeah. Rest there. No matter the storm, go deep in His peace.

Wake up.
Wear Him as your life-jacket.

September 29, 2015 dark night

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm‬ ‭32:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Good morning, GuidedHeart,

How’s your walk? My brother, Russ, calls sometimes just to ask. I love that.

The more of life I get under my belt, the more I know that there are no accidents in life. Every challenge, every step is part of God Most High’s greater pattern.

Just about the time our emotional toolbox gets to that place we can breath again, change gets triggered. Sometimes, it feels like we can’t catch a break – or, can we? Looking back on events that I think should have killed me, the truth glows that The Creator always brings exactly what we need, precisely when we need it. While He made no sense to me at the time, His ways have always proven right. Always. Always.

Whatever dark night you may be walking, DearOne, whatever hate your shield may be deflecting or pit you may be mired down in, your Counsel is preparing you – His loving eye is not blinking away from you – your instruction is moving in whether you sense Him, or not. He is moving on your behalf.

Wake up.

Stay alert.

September 23, 2015 space

“17 Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say both “Yes, yes” and “No, no”?

21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”  ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:17, 21-22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Good morning, BlessedOne,

Sometimes life challenges the beliefs of even the most loving people, doesn’t it? I read a quote from the Archbishop of Canterbury, and it stuck, (paraphrased) “When you see the depth of energy that people can put into evil, then there is a flicker of doubt in humanity. It would be inhumane not to react with sadness and doubt.”

Even when we know there are spiritual reasons people make tragic and hurtful and downright ugly decisions that have long-term impact, we still try to make sense of them. So, how are we to pray “positive” prayers while we are hurt and just want the pain to stop? The power of blessing is the key to our healing.

There is a space that is given to you and me by our Maker. This space … between this breath, and the next is a place of creation: cycles that start or stop, grow or fade, live or die. All possibilities exist from this place. Think about it. What kind of Creator sets that kind of power in place for us?! He thought of everything. You and I have the choice and the power to change our lives, to bring peace into our hearts – through the magical moments that we choose to bless it.

Bless the person.

Bless the event.

Bless the growth.

Bless the pain’s purpose.

Bless the journey.

Between breaths, decide, and bless it.

Your will, Lord.  Nothing more. Nothing less.  Nothing else.

Wake up.

Bless it.

September 18, 2015 love love

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” ‭John‬ ‭13:34‬ ‭

Good morning, Beloved,

I love love. Simple. Profound. Let’s see. I don’t know if I can explain this in words: love keeps me in God’s power. Here’s the deal … when someone attacks, naturally-we humans want to hurt right back. It is important to remember that it isn’t about you, there are people who feel better/smarter by pointing out things that are wrong with what you are putting out, rather than creating something of value of their own. Very often, they are trying to cover their own mistakes by lashing out. Love sees through their attack. And, lets the hate-energy pass right on through, so then, that lets your Creator’s love stay high and lifted up where He shows you His truth delivers peace. He holds you steady in His grace.

They could choose an attitude or a work or a mission or a hobby to bring change to their world instead of using up all their energy trying to bring about more pain on themselves and others. If you listened to their negativity and changed what you were doing, it wouldn’t make a difference, they would just find a new thing to complain about. That’s just the brain wiring of a negative person–look for what is wrong. If you can’t cut them out of your life and need help not letting their negativity get to you, think of it through thru the heart of love: they aren’t attacking you, personally, they’re just running into stuff that happens to be there because being negative, being a victim, is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So is choosing to be Love-filled.

Wake up.

Love love.

September 17, 2015 drumbeats

“Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum, praise him with fiddles and mandolin. Let every living, breathing creature praise GOD! Hallelujah!” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭150:5-6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Hello, DearHeart,

I wonder if the reason we humans adore the sound of drums might be because the sound echoes our own heartbeat? Drumming sounds transport us, have you noticed? Growing up in southwest Oklahoma, the drumming of our Native American families has accompanied my background. A constant. It is simply, unexplainably, there. A hum to daily life. The Holy Spirit in us rises to the surface at the drawing power of the beat. Drums tend to capture our heart and take us on a journey whether we nod to go along, or not. And, if the heart gets taken, we are solid gone – we can live with only one kidney, or lung, or part of the brain … but, take the heartbeat and the life is radically and instantly altered forever.

Our Creator set gifts in place for you and me at every trace. He uses every means, including tones in music, in voices, in the sound of wind through a tree, or a keyboard to change the dance of your day. He sets escape routes to be accessed and altered by sounds. When there is a beat, we know He has called an army of His holy hosts to unwrap and awaken layers in you and me.

I cannot know what will be sung up, drummed up in you today. You can be assured that what calls your heart to hear Him will be refined very specifically for you. And, if you slow to take notice, it will be arresting.

Wake up.

Hear His drumming.

September 16, 2015 white crosses

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭55:22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Good morning, Sojourner,

Almost every day we drive by white crosses at the side of the road. They’ve been there for years, marking the resting place of three lives. Right there, on that spot, their journey in life came to an abrupt halt, and their lives and the lives of many others were altered forever.

Last weekend, I asked a group to make a timeline of their lives. I asked them to list, year by year by year, their most significant events. By doing so, other dreams, emotions, and decisions going on around each during that time will surface as well.

Try it. It will take some time.

Notice how God is so faithful – the thread you trace is a powerful reminder that He can be trusted to carry you through to His next place of victory for you.

There will be places you need to mark with a white cross, places of profound tragedies you need to lay down – roads not taken, paths cut off, ambushes, deaths. There will be places that need to be mourned, and places you will write “forgiven” over that you have already released.

Your Creator places meaning on each memory. Ask Him to guide you through what needs to be forgotten, what needs to be laid to rest.

Be gentle with yourself, the dark times have been necessary love-notes. They have lent transforming powers. There is a lot to be said for pinning things to the earth so they don’t follow us around. Laying bitterness to rest creates the opening where thankfulness polishes and glides you and me into Arms of unshakable peace.

His arms await.

Wake up.

Timeline it.

September 15, 2015 veiled

‘“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Hello, WildHeart,

I paused one time, while riding across a pasture, and just to my right was a baby fawn bedded down in tall grass. Momma cows bed their newborn calves down in love-grass much the same way – so when the breeze blows, the tall strands loosen and cover veil-like over the top of the infant. I stared a moment-thinking that what I was looking at wasn’t real. Veiled, like a bride walking the aisle.

To be behind the veil is mysterious, isn’t it? The Creator sets certain insight there, a space contained … powerful … and just out of reach in the right kind of way. It is often here, when God Most High sets us behind a veil, that the Holy Spirit takes over again, as The Guiding Light. He leads you and me from the veil to the His place of the soul’s home. From here, to the next place of help, to the next, where our fiery and flowering soul gains roots again. In the surface, nothing much changes. But, beneath the skin, He most definitely unveils His most powerful forces.

Wake up.

Notice the deeper work.

September 14, 2015 let it rain

September 14, 2015

“Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:17-18‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Good morning, River of Light,

Rain makes me giddy! You, too? Even on Monday morn; the cleansing and rebirth that rain brings to nature absorbs into the soles of our feet muddy with rich soil, hair smelling like pond water; where freshly laundered creation is cause for celebration. Much like the third day from the cross. Transformed. Renewed.

It is from this place that we step into our day clothes, into our ‘busy’ from that wildish place … to be present to the customer, or the hammer, or the stove, or the child, or the data screens. We breathe the Wild of the freshly poured Holy Spirit into our decisions, the work of our heart and our hands, our plans, our classes, our industry, our responsibilities. He sustains all worlds. He whispers His ways to us in and out of our minutes. His Spirit courses and calls us and His responsible ones follow. Our River of Life rushes, then slows to make sure we are coming, He pauses in still waters to allow us to catch up – and sets the flow again. He has something to show us. Many things. Renewed.

Wake up.

Let it rain.

September 11, 2015 articulate

“Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭8:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Hello, HealingHeart,

Of course, Jesus! He knew the answer, but He needs us to ask – to articulate our needs.

Sometimes, life deals set backs. Our Luke has had a rough year with injuries; it’s been tough … one step forward and two steps back since January. If I only had a dime for every prayer of “please, God, let it be me, not him again.”

He is learning that ultimately, even when things are out of his control, he gets to choose how he reacts and responds to everything…slightly reckless, downright defiant, make it up as ya go, fly by the seat of your pants. It’s been peaks and valleys every week – from ‘this may be the end’, to ‘this is my tour of duty to becoming sold-out-soul-fire successful’.

Take notice: the very moment that we reach far into the depths of our souls to ask for the power to give new meaning to things that hurt us most, we discover great wisdom shared by The Master Teacher. His wisdom says, “Annngelllaah, there is beauty EVEN HERE, in places you think it could never exist. The power to see beauty is a choice.”

How about you? Right here is a place where His hand has created a certain healing gift waiting for you to acknowledge – more than just seeing, but to experience with your heart and mind and soul … to experience it brings the breath of The Holy to enter our own breath … filling us with His sacred wind that sings His life into us … through us … and, when co-mingled with the healing breath of our Creator it causes us to create moments of intense and holy poetry. Healing. Feel that.

Wake up.

Notice healing beauty.
