Ironing is great thinking time. Was chatting with my nephew, Chris, last night. His young-ones were entertaining my father-in-law. They bring out unbelievable youth in his weary bones. I can’t begin to tell you the thrill it is for us to see the Poppy of our younger days re-appear for a while!! The image of Father God glowing with pride, adoring His own comes to mind!
(Oh gee-it is too early for glory-tears!)
You know, when you don’t understand your parents life, in a way, you don’t understand your own. There are times we imitate their behavior without ever meaning to.
Genetically, we share the same fibers … the same forces that work on one work on the other. And, more fascinating still – the very traits that may close off one life are the same traits that can and very often do expand in another.
There is an evolution that happens there – there usually is in relationships. Some of the obsession-like family traits (we all have them) that cause the downfall of one, can cause another to open up to true living in Christ. Odd, isn’t it? The very demons that drown – threaten to drown … you know, the ones that stop us in our tracks, those are very often the push that leads us to our walk with Father God.
And, so, the walk deepens.
‘Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;
parents are the pride of their children.’ (Proverbs 17:6 NLT)
