‘Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.’ (1 Peter 1:13 HCSB)
Christ was not shy when it was time for action. At about the age of 30, scholars report His ministry began. In today’s culture, we’d probably call Him a late bloomer! Joseph and Mary’s boy still living at home (at the age of 24….27…..29!!!) Talk about some apron strings!
It was in that earthling world that, whether Mary and Joseph knew it or not, they were preparing the human Christ for action. From experience, they knew the mind would be deceitful above all things when their Jesus set out, away from the safety of the carpenter’s shop. He learned from them:
The inner and outer worlds are not always fun and games, Child. He learned gut-reactions, like a mother fox teaches her pups: if it’s bigger than you, run. If it’s weaker, you decide. If it is sick, leave the thing alone. If it has quills, vicious claws, fangs, poison-back up and run like lightening. If it smells delicious, but has metal jaws, walk on by. Playing “nice” is not always the right choice when you are faced with a rattle snake or a badger.
Be ready for action Child. I know you will make the right decisions.
