You know what drives me nuts about “strategic planning”? Many times, by laying out the criteria for “measurable data” folks get so locked in they fail to see greater opportunities open as they unfold. Our imagination and creativity and ability to flow with intuition gets squelched out because it doesn’t fit the recipe of the corporate blueprint. I wonder how many opportunities have been lost out of fear of changing the plan? How many great ideas have been aborted because they failed to meet the prescribed criteria?
I think we must be very careful, as planners, to stay open to the imagination and to a willingness to scratch through the markers of progress and recreate them again and again.
(yes, these kinds of thoughts wake me up at 3AM. SMH)
